Urbanization

The ARC Center of Excellence in Exciton Science (2021) advances environmental conservation through clean and renewable energy sources- solar energy in urban areas.[1] Solar energy will promote net-zero carbon emissions in major cities and a self-sustaining ability, free from non-renewable energy dependence. The research indicates that more than 74% of the structures and homes in the city can meet 74% of their electricity needs from solar technology.[2] Urban buildings can integrate solar panels on roofs, windows, and walls to counter the massive pollution from energy sources that use non-renewable materials such as coal. Solar panels also promote energy conservation and energy efficiency hence enhancing ecological sustainability.

Conservation

The internet and social media are recent global trends playing a crucial role in conserving the environment. Mallick and Bajpai suggest that, since the internet and social media have become a part of the modern lifestyle, the platforms can promote environmental conservation awareness campaigns.[3] Social media promotes the transfer of up-to-date globalization trends in industrialization, technological assimilation, and scientific knowledge; therefore, it is appropriate for understanding current environmental issues. Furthermore, social media is faster and reaches a larger audience from diverse geographical locations within a short period. The internet also helps assess the quality of the climate, water, and air in a particular location and share the information with others instantly. Therefore, the platform is essential in providing environmental education to promote ecological conservation to ordinary people and experts in the local and international communities.

  1. Hi Yimeng, I agree with you about the internet and social media helping to save the environment. It provided instant means to spread a message and can reach a lot of people all around the world. It’s cool how we can use these platforms to talk about environmental issues (just like this) and share information quickly. Plus, anyone can get involved, not just experts. It’s great to see technology making a positive impact on our planet!
