CKNX News Today covered a newly released article by the University of Windsor’s Centre for Cities regarding the development of the proposed Ojibway National Urban Park. This report bridges the gap between accelerating urbanization and the creation of accessible parks. It urges parks in Canada to establish clear guidelines for introducing protected biodiversity into highly populated areas. This directly connects to unit three, how resources carry the historic tension between expanding cities and natural landscapes. It helped me realize that parks aren’t just far away vacation spots, but instead we’re building them right beside busy cities to act as essential infrastructure. This helps protect nature from city growth while still giving people a close place to enjoy outside.

Phy.org explores how rapid urbanization and residential construction are causing an extinction crisis for local species and how we must adapt our architecture. The article highlights the threat of hostile architecture and urban sprawl fragmenting animal habitats, forcing a conversation about building homes that actively support urban conservation. Reading this connected to core concepts about habitat, prevention and animal environmental interdependence. It pushed me to consider that conservation can no longer happen in isolated wilderness zones. Our cities must actively co-design built environments where domesticated wildlife can coexist with human safely.
